Matt Scott performs solo concerts on the bayan, a classical freebass accordion, and the bandoneón, playing freely improvised music, his own compositions, and accompanying songs, film, drama, and dance.
Tours have encompassed performing with fellow resident musicians of the Omi International Art Center in New York, fellows of the Atina residency in Lazio central Italy, festivals in Puglia, southern Italy, and in Sardinia, work with Chinese poet Xiaolu Guo in Paris, Oslo, Lausanne, and San Francisco, an award winning première of a solo bayan composition for the All Ireland Accordion Festival, and a live soundtrack for a newly discovered feature length silent film of the late 19th century Italian family circus dynasty Circo Togni, at the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival in England.
Regularly appearing on the experimental music scene and at the Klinker Club in London, which he has run since 1997 with Hugh Metcalfe, he has held a weekly solo residency at London’s Vortex Jazz Club, performed an original solo accordion composition for the Royal Academy of Music Accordion Department 25 Year Anniversary celebrations, and featured as guest soloist for the Bitten By A Monkey Presents series.
